Good morning! Let's Hammer Out the Weather!
We have yet another Winter storm moving up from the South that's impacting our weather, but this one, as you may notice by looking out the window depending on what time you're reading this today, won't be all in the form of snow.
A Winter Weather Advisory is posted from 1am until 1pm this afternoon. We'll have light snow beginning shortly across the tri-state area. Expect at most 1"-2" of snow before it begins to changeover to ice for a short period of time. Then after a brief coating of sleet/ice, we'll changeover to a cold, miserable rain for the rest of your Tuesday.
If you're headed out early this morning be safe on the roads, they will be slick!! Temperatures will start out in the upper 20's this morning, but then creep up to past the freezing mark. Once we get above freezing, we'll start to see any sleet changeover to that cold rain. It's going to be a breezy day as well with gusts to near 30mph!
So, rain continues this afternoon and evening, some of it will be heavy at times. Then for tonight, the steadier rain will begin to taper off to showers with nighttime lows at or just above the freezing mark.
Another factoid about today's storm. You might be thinking, "oh, mostly rain - that will melt all of this snow away!" Wrong. It will still be cold enough to where the rain doesn't help all that much to melt any old snow and we'll have a fresh coating of snow then a thin ice layer for the rain to melt away first from this storm.
Tomorrow morning we may have a leftover shower, otherwise mostly cloudy and still breezy with temperatures in the 30's.
High temperatures tomorrow afternoon will reach the low 40's. But then, we'll take a plunge back to the 20's for tomorrow night! This is when we have to really be concerned about any standing water turning to ice tomorrow night. Roads will be icy in spots - there's no question about it.
Then it's back to the cold for Thursday with highs in the 20's. We'll stay dry for much of your Thursday, but then I'm monitoring yet another Winter storm for late Thursday night into Friday. This one looks to be more of a snow storm!! So, keep that in the back of your mind when making any plans for Friday.
The weekend at this point looks to be really cold, but dry with temperatures in the low to mid 20's!
