Tonight's Tri-State Area Update: Ice/Freezing Rain Leads To Dangerous Wednesday Morning Commute

Good evening! Time to Hammer Out The Weather!
Part two of today's inclement weather starts overnight tonight! Here's the latest:

We're in a situation where the timing and duration of any ice/freezing rain and eventually plain rain will have to be watched. I will monitor the storm and advise on Facebook and Twitter when changeovers have taken place or will be taking place. There's just simply uncertainty as to exactly when the precipitation starts overnight and how long any icing lasts. The longer any icing lasts, the worse the impacts of this storm for New York City and Long Island. Here's what I'm thinking in terms of timing right now:

Overnight:

Part two of this storm gets to us and will begin in the form of ice/freezing rain with temperatures hanging in the 20's. This is a major concern and here's why:

That much ice will create nasty travel conditions for your morning commute! Ice accumulation of even a few tenths of an inch would be much worse than a lot of snow!

Tomorrow:

Your Wednesday morning commute will be much worse than this morning's with freezing rain falling during the early morning hours.

The freezing rain will then want to change over to plain rain. The exact timing of the change to plain rain is still somewhat uncertain. This is one of the things I will need to update you on tomorrow morning.

Freezing rain or rain will continue through tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow Night

Winds will be at their strongest tomorrow night, gusting to 25mph. This will cause for the continued threat of power outages and downed trees/power lines.

We'll also be dealing with a wintry mix again before ending as some light snow late tomorrow night.

Thursday:

We'll finally start to clear out as another frigid blast of cold air moves in. Highs will be in the upper 20's. 

Weekend:

Expect a slow warming trend for Friday through this weekend, but there is the possibility of a coastal storm still on the table for Saturday. I'll continue to watch that throughout the week and bring you the latest.
